She was born on Sept. 13, 1918, in Hagerstown, Md., and was the daughter of the late Thompson Adam Brown and Anna Virginia Huyett. Mrs. Hopkins was born at home on Brown Avenue in Hagerstown, but was raised in Boonsboro. She attended Boonsboro High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1935. After graduation, she attended Columbia Business College in Hagerstown.
She was married for 62 years, and was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Hopkins. Also preceding her in death was a son, William F. Hopkins II, and a sister, Evanna Brown Ridgely.
Mrs. Hopkins had been a Realtor in Hagerstown and Washington County, Md., for 40 years before retiring in 1998. She lived the first 86 years of her life in the Hagerstown/Boonsboro area before moving to Raleigh in 2004. Sara maintained many friendships and fond memories of Hagerstown and the Hagerstown valley area.
She was a lifetime member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, where she volunteered in the church nursery for 30 years. Sara was also a member of the Conococheague Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Hagerstown.
Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, at a future date.
