Rita celebrated her life with vitality, strength and a smile. She attended Hoffman Grade School and gradated from United Township High School in 1962. In later years she attended Black Hawk College, Moline, IL and Marshalltown Community College, Marshalltown, IA. In those years, she created friendships that lasted her lifetime.

After graduation, Rita worked for Turnstyle Department Store until she married Cecil in 1965. Along with gardening, Rita enjoyed photography, antiquing and swimming. Before the journey of her cancer began, she was asked to participate in the Senior Citizen Olympic Swim Team.
