Allen D. Avery, 58 years old, died at 4:20 o'clock Saturday morning in his home, 636 West Decatur street, following a stroke of paralysis. He was born February 2, 1855 near Troy, Indiana and lived there until he was about 26 years old and then came to Macon county settling on a farm near Moweaqua. He farmed there for 22 years before coming to Decatur. He has lived here nine years.
He was married twice. To the first union were born three children, Mabel K. Avery, William D. Avery and Harry Avery. He was married the second time to Myrtle Steele of Milam township on Dec. 28, 1897. To this union was born two children, Mervin Wayne Avery and Ethel Frieda Very. Mabel and Mervin died in infancy. William died in 1904.
Besides his widow he also leaves brothers, Scott Avery of Topinsport, Ind. and Oren Avery of Indianapolis. He was a member of the Methodist church, having joined when a young man.
While his death came as a shock, physicians had told him and his relatives that he would probably go without warning. He suffered three strokes, one two years ago, a slight stroke a year ago and the last Friday evening. He had been out riding with the members of his family and seemed as well as usual. He had just retired when he was stricken.
Burial will be in Macon.
