Brody W. Schumacher, 2-year-old son of Joseph and Shelby (Perleth) Schumacher, of 532 W. 17th St., died 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, Iowa City, after a short and brave battle with liver cancer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Key West, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3:45 p.m.

He was born on March 12, 2007, at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, Iowa City, with his twin sister, Leah.

After birth, Brody spent 14 months getting stronger so he could come home to be with his twin sister and parents. On Aug. 15, 2009, he achieved a milestone in his life of being at home longer than being in the hospital.

Brody's bright eyes and large smile touched everyone he met. He will always be loved and remembered and will be in our hearts forever.

Surviving are his parents, Joseph and Shelby; his twin sister, Leah, and a new sibling to arrive in April; maternal grandparents, Terry and Barb Perleth; paternal grandparents, Mary Jo (Jude) Neyens and David Schumacher, all of Dubuque, maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Perleth; paternal great-grandmother, Dolores Jungblut; paternal great-grandparents, Francis and Ethel Schumacher; and aunts and uncles, Meggan (Matt) Guns, of West Des Moines, Raena Perleth, of Minneapolis, Logan Perleth, Doug (Sarah) Schumacher and their son, Lucas and Laura Schumacher, all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Harlan and Lois Thielen and William Perleth; and paternal great-grandfather, Don Jungblut.
