Clemence and Laurence studied art at the Lambert School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, where "Clem" specialised in wood-engravings. She wrote three novels: The Were-Wolf (1896), The Unknown Sea (1898) and The Life of Sir Aglovale de Gaul (1905).
From 1924 onwards Laurence and Clemence lived in the village of Street, Somerset, in the house that Laurence had built. Here Clemence died in 1955; her ashes are buried in the 'new' St. Mary the Virgin Cemetery, Bathwick Hill, close to the memorial erected to the Housman family by its most renowned member, A.E.
