Parents: Ephraim Leighton and Esther Tibbetts
Birth order: 3rd born of seven
Siblings: Stephen; Henry Tibbetts; Esther; Charlotte; Anna B; and Isaac.
He was born in Rome and grew up there and lived in Mount Vernon and Augusta.
Marriage:
On November 17, 1820, Ephraim married Hannah Brainard, daughter of Nathaniel and Roxanna (Austin) Brainard of Mount Vernon.
8 Children:
Ephraim and Hannah were the parents of eight children including a set of twins: Laura Ann; Henry Martin; twins: Rosanna Brainard and Rosilla Clough; Owen Oaks; Abbie Robinson; Esther C; and Sullivan Augustus. All the children were born in Parkman.
Ephraim and Hannah eventually moved to Augusta though the exact date is not known. The 1840 census shows 10 people in his father's household. His father was living in the household in the 1850 census so it can be assumed that they moved to Augusta sometime after 1837 and before the census.
Ephraim's gravestone shows he was aged 76 years and 6 months upon his death. He is buried in the same plot with his wife (Hannah); sister-in-law [Susan K. Cook); sister (Ann B. Bearce); son (Sullivan Augustus); and his father, Ephraim. At this time it is not known where his mother is buried.
