When Frances Maria Bowe was born on 15 December 1830, in East Windsor Hill, Connecticut, her father Asa Bowe was 54 and mother Sabra L. (Strickland) Bowe, was 34. Her maternal grandparents were Seth and Anna (Shepard) Stickland. Her paternal grandparents were Amos and Lydia (Allen) Bowe.

Frances had eight siblings. Her mother, Sabra had a daughter, Ann Eliza Cornwall (born 20 January 1820) with Mr. Cornwall. Anna died unmarried on 7 January 1888, at age 68.

Frances's parents, Asa and Sabra had three daughters, Frances was the youngest. Her sisters were:
1. Julia Augusta Bowe (born 24 August 1824). In 1847, she married Franklin Stephen Holmes, son of John and Sabrina (Case) Holmes, and had four children: Lucius, Rosa, Arthur J. and Herbert T. In 1875, Julia married widower Cyrus Edson. She died on 18 March 1905, at age 78.
2. Mary Jane Bowe (born 5 December 1829). On 13 October 1850, she married Elijah House Coville, son of Edmund and Lucy House Covell and had one daughter, Lavinia Maria Covell. Elijah died in 1853, at age 23 and Mary Jane died in 1859, at age 29.

Previously, in 1800, her father, Asa married Wealthy Anne Webster. Frances had five siblings from that union:
1. Abner Bowe (born 11 July 1801). He died on 21 May 1809, at age 7 years, 10 months, 10 days.
2. Eliza Bowe (born 24 October 1803). She died unmarried on 18 August 1858, at age 55.
3. Wealthy Bowe (born 22 January 1806). On 22 January 1835, she married Eleazer Fenton. They had four children: Porter Eleazer, George Allen, Henry King and Theodore Dwight. Wealthy died on 29 August 1885, at age 79.
4. Emeline Bowe (born 1 November 1808). On 5 November 1839, Emeline married Julius Birge, son of Jonathan and Sarah “Sally” (Warner) Birge. They had one daughter Mary Ann Birge. Julius was previously married to Mary A. Stoughton and had two children: Frederic Arthur and Juliette Warner. Emeline died on 23 April 1895, at age 86.
5. Laura Bowe (born 3 May 1811). In 1851, she married Obadiah Allen Bowe, son of Amos and Rebekah (Eldridge) Bowe. They had one son, who died as an infant. Obadiah, previously married Catherine Weaver and had six children (Florence, Amos, Abby, Horace, Helen and Susan). Catherine died in 1850, at age 28. Laura died on 30 July 1879, at age 68.

Frances’s father, Asa died on 20 June 1848. Her mother, Sabra married widower Benjamin Ashley on 9 December 1849.

On 26 May 1852, Frances Maria Bowe married Lucius Edwin Thompson, son of John Terry Thompson and Sarah Maria (Blodgett) Thompson. They had five children all born in Rockville, Connecticut:
1. Edward Thompson (born 6 June 1854). He died on 6 October 1854, at 4 months.
2. Frederick Hammond Thompson (born 1 September 1855). On 8 October 1878, he married Margaret Bliss Carver, daughter of Henry O. and Chloe Bliss (Cooley) Carver.
3. Alberti S. Thompson (born 2 June 1859). He died on 5 September 1861, at 2 years.
4. Alberti Terry Thompson (born 16 December 1861). On 26 August 1881, he married Ida May Bacon, daughter of James S. and Caroline (Bidwell) Bacon. They had three children: Newton Ernest Thompson, Robert Charles Thompson and Lillian Thompson. After his divorce, Alberti married Lizzie Taylor and later Susie (Bates) Hart.
5. Annie Strickland Thompson (born 29 May 1870). On 20 May 1891, she married John Peter Cameron, son of John Galt and Ann (Craig) Cameron. They had three children: Beatrice Margaret Cameron, Audrey Thompson Cameron and Donald Craig Cameron. Annie died at age 34, eight days after giving birth to son Donald.

Frances Maria Bowe Thompson died on 25 March 1913, in Rockville, Connecticut, at the age of 82 years, and was buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Rockville, CT.
