Obit -- William Glen Barnett, "Barnett the Sign Painter," died Monday (Jan 26, 1998 in St. Mary's Hospital due to a sudden heart attack.
Glen was born in Long Creek on Feb 27, 1909, the son of Grant and Mae Barnett. Following severeal years of teaching art and English and while window trimming at Mongomery Wards, he married his first wife, Francis J. Slatten. Shortly after, he started his pride and joy, Barnett Sign Service in 1938. His sign painting venture was interrupted while he served in the Navy on a destroyer escort in WWII. Following the death of his frst wife, Francis, he married his current wife, Velma Crosno. In his spare time, Glen was a member of the Noon Lions Club and was an avid bowler.
Glen, Cotton, Barney, Daddy, Pa, Pap, Grand-opa, Pa-Paw will long be remembered by all who knew him as a man you couldn't help but like and love.
Surviving are his wife, Velma; son, Richard and wife Doris; step-daughter, Carolyn Upshaw; grandchildren, Bill, Diana, Barbie, Debbie, Robyn, Mark and Susan; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Albert; son-in-law, Ron Blodgett. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and sisters, first wife Francis, and his ever loving daughter and also pride of his life, Joanne.
