DEATH CLAIMS L.F. BENCHOFF
Former Franklin County Superintendent of Schools Dies at Age of 84.
Waynesboro, June 14.—Loudon F. Benchoff, 84, former Franklin county superintendent of schools and delegate in the legislature, died Wednesday at his residence in Hooverville from complications. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Benchoff.
In 1874 he was made a teacher in the grammar school, Waynesboro, later teaching in the high school. He also taught at Ringgold, Maryland, and was principal of the Rouzerville school.
Was Active Churchman
In 1902 he was elected county superintendent of schools and served two terms. At the expiration of his tenure of office Mr. Benchoff became superintendent of the schools of Clearfield. He was elected to the legislature from Franklin county and served two terms. He was a member of the Harbaugh Reformed church and at the time of his death was an elder.
He is survived by his widow and the following children: Howard J. Benchoff, headmaster of Massanutten Military academy, Woodstock, Virginia; George H. Benchoff, at home; Guy A. Benchoff, commandant at Massanutten Military academy; and Ross E. Benchoff, teacher in the Johnston high school.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: James Benchoff, of Rouzerville; Valentine Benchoff, Tiffin, Ohio; Mrs. Alice Godman, Rouzerville; and Mrs. Ira Hostler, Plymouth, Ohio.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. today at his home in charge of the Rev. Victor H. Jones, assisted by the Rev. Dr. I.W. Hendricks, the Rev. E.O. Keen and the Rev. Joseph E. Guy.
