Born August 26, 1866, Mrs. Fields was the oldest child of the late Alexander and Mary Anderson Dodd, and had lived here her entire life.
She is survived by five sons, Johnnie, Herman, Ernest, Lester, and Alton; four daughters, Mrs. Mercer Dameron, Mrs. Herbert Lowe, Mrs. Ethel Campbell and Miss Marjorie Fields, all of this community. Another daughter, Miss Pearl Fields, died some years ago. Also surviving are two brothers, B. R. Dodd, of Waynesboro and Richard Dodd, of Avon; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Coffey and Mrs. Lee Fitzgerald, both of Alexandria, and Mrs. Lula Campbell, of Cold Springs; twenty-six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were five of her grandsons and a great-nephew, Arthur Lowe, Garth Fields, Quentin Fields, Robert Fields, Glenn Fields and Carroll Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Herbert Dickie, Messrs. Clarence Campbell, P. T. Campbell, Dave Grove, C. G. Campbell, C. M. Hughes, W. R. Rodes, Shelby Fitzgerald, Raymond Fitzgerald, C. W. Dodd, C. E. Thompson, Tommie Fitzgerald, S. T. Rodes, John Cook, J. T. Quick and Willie Fitzgerald.
Flower bearers, all granddaughters of the deceased were as follows: Mrs. James D. Lowe, Miss Temple Fields, Mrs. Luther McGann Jr., Mrs. Layman Dodd, Miss Myra Fields, Miss Marguerite Fields, Mrs. Ralph Roberts, Mrs. Lillian McCrary, Miss Patsy Fields, Miss Gwen Fields, Miss Laverne Fields and Mrs. George Brown.
