John Meranda, 74, of Myton, died in a Salt Lake hsopital Thursday at 12:45 a.m. of burns suffered April 8. Mr. Meranda was burning brush along a creek bed on his farm at Myton when the wind changed suddenly and he incurred severe burns.
Born in Scottsburg, Ind., January 22, 1968, a son of Thomas Meranda and Elizabeth Moon, he moved to Utah while working as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad some time before 1900 and had been farming at Myton since then.
He married Priscilla Morris of Morgan in 1885. His wife preceded him in death.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. O. R. Warner of Copperton, Mrs. Leandrew Gilbert of Arcadia, Mrs. Ole Peterson and Mrs. Heber Allred of Myton; a son, Charles Meranda of Myton; two brothers, George of Myton and J. W. Meranda of Salt Lake City; 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Myton LDS ward chapel, under the direction of the Bingham mortuary.
