Uintah Basin Standard (UT) May 7, 1953. Obituary: Joseph Ole Peterson, 64, died of a fatal heart attack, Saturday May 2, while working on his ranch property west of town. Known to his host of friends as "Ole" he had made his home in Myton or vicinity since 1904. He was born Nov. 2, 1888 at Vernal, a son of Joseph and Mary Sitsler Peterson. He moved to Neola with his parents at the age of 16 years, about this time the Reservation was opened up for homesteading. He married Hazel V. Meranda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Meranda, Oct. 27, 1910, at Vernal, and soon moved to Myton where he became an employee of the U. S. Government in the Uintah and Ouray Indian Irrigation Service. In this service he resided at Randlett from 1916 to 1920, then his work took him to Arcadia, where the family lived till 1932, when they returned to Myton, remaining here since that date. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also served this community as a member of the Myton City Council.

He is survived by his wife, 5 daughters and 2 sons; Mrs. Aldon (Ada) Fenn, Myton; Mrs. Glen (Thora) Wardle, Mrs. Lowell (Blaudwyn) Bingham, and Mrs. Richard (Mary Jean) Bingham, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Owen (Hazel) Bingham, Provo; Morris Peterson, of Springville, and Franklyn Peterson, serving in the armed forces at San Luis Obispo, Calif. One brother, Jos. E. Peterosn, Salt Lake City; 3 sisters, Mrs. Marn Smith, Salt Lake City, Mrs. Alice Peterson, California, and another sister in Cedar City; 35 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was employed for 44 years in the Uintah and Ouray Irrigation Service and retired Dec. 3. 1952. Interment was in the Myton City Cemetery.
