Gershom was baptised 8 August 1830, at St John, Halifax, Yorkshire, the son of Gershom Bincliffe and his wife Maria nee Hanson.
He emigrated to the US in 1842 with his brother James and 2 sisters, to join the rest of his family who had left around 1840.
The family first lived in New York State, but following his fathers death in 1852 they moved to Wisconsin.
Gershom married Mary Craig Perrine 20 September 1855 in Green County Wisconsin.
Children: Fred 1857, Caroline 1859, Charles Joseph 1861, Loyal Thomas 1863, Anna Mae 1868, Elgin 1870.
Gershom is recorded as a farmer in Dodge County Minnesota in 1860 and 1870, but by 1880 he had moved to Minneapolis, where he founded the Bintliff Manufacturing Company.
He was buried 25 July 1911, aged 80
