Husband of Mary Priscilla Paden.

Mervin served as a Seaman, First Class, U.S.S. Gansevoort (DD-608), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland prior to the war.

Melvin was declared "Missing In Action" when the Gansevoort was hit by a kamikaze on it's main deck to port in Mangarin Bay, Mindoro.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.
