Lucinda Bortz Swaney

Lucinda Bortz Swaney, daughter of Samuel and Emeline Bortz, was born December 25, 1869, in Mercer county (sic), Pa., and died October 12, 1950, at Belleville hospital at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 17 days.
In 1894 she came to Chester, Neb,, where she was united in marriage to Lewis I. Swaney. To this union three children were born, two of whom are still living. A son, Lawrence, passed away in infancy.
The family moved to Republic county (sic) in 1904 and lived in Republic City for the past 35 years Mrs. Swaney was a kind and loving mother, a good wife, and a valued friend. She was always cheerful, helpful and thought of others rather than herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Christian church in Chester, Neb., and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in Republic.
Mrs. Swaney is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lena Baxter of Republic, and Mrs. Lottie Strickland of Wichita, six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a nephew. Her husband preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Evangelical United Brethren church (sic) in Republic, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Jackson. Interment was in Chester cemetery (sic).
