PEACHLAND — Ruth B Ballard, 85, passed away the 3rd of January, 2010, at Autumn Care of Marshville.

She was born on January 8, 1924, in Nash County to the late Norris and Mattie Johnson Bryant.

She was a retired District Manager with Southern Bell with 43 years of service beginning in Durham and eventually leading to Raleigh, Charleston, S.C., and Charlotte. Ruth enjoyed traveling and mission trips with her church. She was a Sunday School teacher at East Way Baptist Church, and a member of the telephone Pioneers. She also enjoyed quilting, cross stitch and spending time with her family and friends. Ruth moved to Peachland in 2000 to be near her family and was an active member of New Home Baptist Church.

She was married to the late Archie A. Ballard. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Janice Ballard, and five siblings: May Sealey, Ree Hill, Gladys Eatman, Lee Penney and George Bryant.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Home Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Nix, and her husband Roger; her grandson, Chuck Nix, and friend Penny Carville, and her great-grandson, Blake Nix, and his mother, Cindy. She is also survived by the two people that she loved as sisters: her cousin, Louise Snider, and Annie Lee Traywick.

The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Autumn Care for their friendship and care of Ruth.
