Detlef Hass was the second son of German immigrants. They emigrated from Schleswig Holstein in 1867. Detlef married Christine Knaack, who was born outside of Davenport Iowa, on Dec 8, 1887. Detlef died in an influenza epidemic. After his death, his brothers came from the north central United States to help out the widow and her daughter.
Detlef's wife Christine went on to marry his brother John.
