Winifred "Winnie" Mae Fromer 86, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove. She was born on May 29, 1923 in Greensburg, Indiana to Omer and Margaret (Terrell) Smith. She married Charles G. Fromer on December 15, 1945 and resided in Indianapolis, the remainder of her life. Survivors include her husband and two daughters, Sierra (Ronald) Collins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Charla (Gordon) Simons of Greenwood. Also, surviving are four grandsons, Jeffrey and Brian Collins and Anthony and David Simons. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Alberta Bower and Lorena �Faye� Adkins, and one grandson, Mark Simons.
She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1941. Winnie was employed by J. I. Holcomb, Inc. from 1955-1965. She later served as the financial recording secretary at Southport Baptist Church for 20 years.
Winnie was a devoted homemaker and loving, wife, mother and Nana to her family. She enjoyed singing, traveling, sewing, candy-making, and entertaining friends and family at their home in Indianapolis. She was an active member of Southport Baptist Church for 59 years.
On Thursday, January 7, 2010, there will be a memorial service held at the Southport Baptist Church, 2901 E. Banta Road, Indianapolis, 46227, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Internment of cremains will be at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood at a later date.
