John Henry Birnbaum, son of Henry and Mary Birnbaum, marred Clara K. Wilmert, the oldest of eight children of Henry H. and Martha (Gimbel) Wilmert in 1915 at St. John Evangelical Church, formerly St. John German Evangelical Church. John always wanted to be a railroad engineer, but Henry insisted that he farm. He and Clara started farming on the Old Home Place. But, later John bought a 91 acre piece of land to the west of the home place. They raised ducks and geese and also milded cows for many eyars. They also raised Jersey dairy cattle, Duroc Jersey and Hamshire hogs, and Barred Plymouth rock chickens. They had one daughter, Romelda G., who was born on the Old Home Place. The family attended Zion Luteran church in Lincoln. clara passed away in 1963 and John died in 1969.
