She was preceded in death by her mom Joyce Lawrence, sister Connie Lawrence, grandparents Vernie and Don Monroe, Mabe Andersen, and Marie Payne.
Vic taught at the Tularosa Middle School from 1982 until her retirement in July 2009. She taught New Mexico History and Physical Education. She had a passion for coaching.
She was a coach for 27 years. She coached middle school volleyball, basketball, and track. In addition she was the girls' varsity head coach for 13 years. She and her team won district championships in 1993, 1997, and 2000. She was also made coach of the year those years. She took great pride in leading the varsity to a 2nd place finish at state in 1993. That accomplishment still stands as the best state finish a Tularosa girl's varsity team has achieved. For the last few years she was the girls JV coach winning numerous JV district championships.
Vic enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson trike, camping, cooking for family gatherings, and watching sports. She could always be found in the gym supporting the Tulie teams. She was very proud of all Tularosa athletes and their accomplishments throughout the years.
Vic was well respected and loved by her peers, teams, and family. Known for her sternness, she was yet fair and caring toward her students and athletes. Her family will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and selflessness.
In addition to her family, Vic will be remembered by her special friends Deb and Scott Saldevar, Edna Tart, Susan Turner, Pat Coburn, and Andrea Stevens. She was especially close to the staff at Otero Oncology. The family and Vic would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Korec and Heather, her "angles" on earth, Denise Jacobs and Diane Lindsay, and the rest of the staff for their caring and love. Other close friends include her "chemo sisters" Priscilla Contreras and Karen Surowiec.
Services will be held at Alamogordo Funeral Home on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 11:30 am. The family invites you to come celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in her name to the Otero Oncology Department at 2559 N. Scenic Dr. in Alamogordo or to the Lady Wildcat Basketball Team at Tularosa High School in care of Scott Saldevar.
The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
