He retired from the Illinois National Guard and the Army National Guard in 1979

as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was member of Ark and Anchor Lodge 354, AF&AM, in Auburn, Illinois,

a 50-year member of the American Legion in Canton, Illinois,

and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 755.
