Paul J. Alexander, 76, Palm Coast, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Florida Hospital Flagler following an extended illness. He was born on March 21, 1933 in Boston, MA and was the 2nd son of Ernest and Mary Maquire Alexander. He joined the United States Air Force in 1950. After being stationed at McDill Air Force Base, he served with the 374th Air Police Squad in Korea and Japan returning to Boston in 1954. He operated his own trucking operation in the Northeast until becoming a sheriff's deputy for Windsor County, VT. Paul later became a police officer in Norwich, VT, retiring as the Chief of Police in 1993. Moving to Palm Coast, he again ran his own transportation business. He later worked for the Florida Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Compliance as an inspector at the weigh station on I-95 in Palm Coast. Paul was a member of the Vermont Police Association, the American Legion Flagler, Post #115, and the Florida Police Benevolent Association. A lifelong Red Sox fan, he enjoyed the Florida lifestyle using his imaginative, hard working talents to enjoy the boating experience as well as the landscaping and upkeep of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Alexander. Paul is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Alexander; as well as many nieces and nephews from around the country. There will be a memorial service Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 3:00p.m. at the VFW, Post # 8696, 47 Old Kings Road, Palm Coast.
