An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, December 16, 1955:

James Edward West, 72-year-old farmer who had resided in the Pecan Grove community the last 24 years, was found dead at his home Monday afternoon. His death was attributed to a heart attack.
Funeral rites were held Wednesday afternoon at Scott's Chapel, Rev. R. L. Whitworth officiating. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery, and pallbearers were P. C. Martin, Bobby Martin, Paul Martin, Buck Crouch, Alton Dalton and Merle Russell.
Mr. West, a native Texan, was married to Tenna Lou Ellis in 1923 and they moved to Pecan Grove in 1931.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by five sons, Clarence Hufford West, of Dallas, James Edward West of Oglesby, William Larkin West of Oklahoma City, Jack O. Dawson and Billy Dawson, both of Oklahoma City; four daughters, Mrs. Alto Barnes of O'Donnell, Mrs. Henry Thompson of Dallas, Mrs. Thurman Rogers of Big Spring and Mrs. J. D. Hamilton of Gatesville; 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommie Lee West of Madisonville; and two sisters, Mrs. Jim Terry of Roscoe and Mrs. Alice Huskey of Madisonville.
