Robert Lee Baird, age 71, died Monday, November 21 1988 at his home in West Point. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 23 at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel. Special music was provided by Mrs. Barbara Taylor. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Richard Hunter officiating.
The son of the late O E Baird and the late Lizzie Jane Breland, he was formerly of Houston having lived in West Point since 1960. He was a retired service manager for Bishop Chevrolet Company, later Larry White Chevrolet Company and a retired employee of Clark Manufacturing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of West Point and was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U S Air Force. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross for Bravery during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley Fay Frazier Baird of West Point; one daughter, Mrs. Zandra B Younger of Memphis, Tennessee; five sons, Robert Lee Baird, Jr. of Ramona, California, Larry F Baird of Columbus and Robert Michael Baird, Danny Paul Baird and Timothy Baird, all of West Point; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Jordan of Charleston, West Virginia and Mrs. Willie Maude Cox of Houston; two brothers, Everett Baird and Hubert Baird, both of Houston and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bo Burgess, John Barron, Vernon Clark, Billy Pate, Evans Baird and Murdell Baswell.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements.
