Harold Theodore Drake of Tecumseh died at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 1963 in the Omaha Methodist hospital, where he had been since Wednesday, March 27. The cause of his death was Hodgkins disease. His age was 61 years, two months and 21 days.
Born February 2, 1902, at Odell, he was a son of John William and Almira Mae (Payne) Drake. He spent his early years and attended school at Esbon, Kans., where he was graduated from high school. From there he moved with his parents to O'Neill, where the family operated a large cattle ranch for a number of years. He moved with his parents to Western, where they operated a meat market.
His marriage to Miss Alma Louise Kirchhoff of Western took place at Daykin January 16, 1927, at Western. They established their first home in Western. In the winter of 1928, Mr. Drake started his 35-year career with the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company at Western. He worked at various exchanges, including Fairbury, Beatrice and Sterling. For the past 25 years, he worked as a telephone combination man at Tecumseh. Mr. and Mrs. Drake became the parents of six children.
Surviving Mr. Drake are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Stanley L. (Kathleen Marguerite) Spier and Miss Rona Louise Drake of Lincoln and Mrs. Richard L. (Carol Berniece) Hultgrien of El Paso, Tex., three sons, Rolland Mark Drake of Beatrice and Morris Glen Drake and Warren Leight Drake of Lincoln; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Dorothy) Olmfield of Elmwoood, Mrs. Ruth Abrams of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Luther (Helen) Bennett of Verdon; five brothers, Richard and Gerald Drake of Western, Oliver and Arthur Drake of Elmwood, and Alonzo Drake of Omaha; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral was held in the St. John's Lutheran church of Tecumseh. Rev. P. W. Sellman, pastor of the church, officiated. The pallbearers were Donald Meister, Richard McCoy, Donald Hester, Lowell Keedy, L. E. Lyons and James Rhoades. Burial was in the Tecumseh cemetery, with arrangements by Wherry's mortuary.
