United States Naval Officer. A Captain in the United States Navy during World War II, He was commander of the submarine "USS Finback". On receiving a message of a downed aircraft, he ordered the "USS Finback" to the scene where future United States President George H.W. Bush was rescued when the Japanese shot down his Avenger torpedo plane on September 2, 1944.
