Toni Peralta Sparber
1931-2006

Toni Peralta Sparber, recently of Albuquerque and a native of Belen and Jarales, has taken her journey home on Sunday, Aug. 27, after battling breast cancer.

A direct descendant of the first Spanish explorers, Toni was positive and dynamic. She was an advocate for the voiceless as a social worker at the Belen Welfare Department, Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, AARC, and the Belen nursing home. After retirement, she continued to be a lifelong learner, accomplished painter, decorator, landscaper and genealogist. Her crowning endeavor was her devotion to her faith and her family. She will be treasured and cherished "until the 12th of Never."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elifas and Socorrita Peralta, and brothers, Fidel, Abelicio and Felipito.

Toni is survived by her husband of 52 years, former Sandia scientist Frederick Sparber; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Lew Witz of Albuquerque; and five beloved grandchildren: Anya Maria Witz at UNM, Gregory Eiler Witz at NMSU, and Madalyn Clare, Josef Christopher, and Elias Nikai Witz of the family home. She also leaves behind her sisters and their families: Lita Peralta, Angie Vallejos, and Nora Rivera of Jarales, Sadie and Joseph Barela of Albuquerque, Corrine and Ray Willison of Santa Fe, sister-in-law Christina Peralta of Barstow and former brother-in-law Ernest Vallejos of Belen. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary and eulogy to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic church on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Gregory Witz, Fidel Vallejos, Lawrence Barela, Loretta Vallejos, and John Barela.
