Death Breaks Chain of Five Generations
Mrs. Eliza Jane Brooks, 82, Dies at Fresno Home

Mrs. Eliza Jane Brooks, 82, a resident of California since her arrival in a covered wagon in 1853 and the widow of the late A.R. Brooks, died Sunday at her home at 1425 Divisadero Street. She leaves five generations to mourn her loss.

All of her children are here, coming from various parts of the state after her condition became critical. She had been a resident of Fresno for forty-four years.

Born in Des Moines, Iowa, she came to California by ox wagon in 1852. The family settled in Shasta.

Mrs. Brooks was the mother of W. R. Brooks, a deputy Alameda County Assessor; Clarence Brooks of Catalina Island, former coast league ball player and manager of the Catalina Island farm club of Los Angeles Pacific Coast League team; Walter C Brooks of Fresno, George Frazier of Sacramento, Mrs. Grace L Favors of Los Banos, Mrs. Lydia B Thompson of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. A. Brown of Huntington Beach and Mrs. E. Sansome of Fresno.

She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, Gay and Roy Hilliker, Mrs. Bethel Sund, Mrs. Lottie Simmonds, Mrs. Dorothy Drieske and Mrs. Ethel Van Meter of Fresno; Carol and Russel Brooks of Catalina, Norman Favors of Oregon, Arnold Thompson of San Francisco, Bert Hilliker of Bakersfield, Grace Thompson of Washington, D.C., and George, Jack and O. Woodbridge.

In addition she is survived by two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters, a great-great granddaughter, and a great-great-great grandson. Her husband, a civil war veteran, died here in 1912. She was a member of the Ladies of the G.A.R.

Private funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the mission Chapel. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
