The following obituary was published in the Rosenberg Herald on April 24, 1942:
"Funeral Services Were Held Thursday For Augustus Green Dawson"
Augustus Green Dawson, age 67 years, died at his home here Wednesday, April 15, 1942 at 3 p.m.
Funeral services for Mr. Dawson were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Rosenberg Christian Church, with Bro. B.D. Clark of Manvel and Bro. M. A. Hoecker of Rosenberg, officiating. Burial took place in the W.O.W. Cemetery. The pallbearers wre W. W. Ward, Sr., W. W. Ward, Jr., J. H. Lane, Joe Bailey,Sr., Herman Meyer and Glenn Walker.
Mr. Dawson was born on November 5, 1874 in Bastrop. He married Miss Kathrine Chew on August 10, 1904 and lived in Bastrop until they moved to Rosenberg in 1913. To this union eight children were born. Mr. Dawson spent most of his life farming in and around Rosenberg.
Mr. Dawson was a true and faithful member of the Rosenberg Christian Church, attending regularly and seeing that his family also attended.
Deceased is survived by his wife; two sons, William, who is stationed at Portland Air Base, Oregon and Wylie of Smithville; five daughters, Mrs. Leonard Craig of Orchard, Misses Helen Clay, Sara Jane, Florine and Jessie Ruth, all of Rosenberg; two sisters, Mrs. W. D Pierce of Blackfoot, Idaho and Mrs. John Waggoner of Bastrop; two brothers, W. B. Dawson of Bastrop, J. W. Dawson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; five grandchldren, Byron, Jack, Lynn and Katherine Ann Clark of Manvel and Bette Lee and Jack Craig of Orchard.
