Darius Richardson Browder is the son of Jeptha and Nancy Bowman Browder. Darius married Margaret Ann Montgomery on November 12, 1865 in Grayson County, Texas, they had four children: John Montgomery Browder, James Darius Browder, Ella Browder and Mary Browder.


Darius Richardson Browder was born in Blunt County, Tenn., in 1839; served in the Confederate Army during the War between the States, moving to Fanning County, Texas, soon after the close of the war, and was married to Miss Margaret Ann Montgomery in 1865. Four children were born to them: John M., James D., Mrs. Ella Gibson and Mrs. Mary Smith. The family moved to Memphis in 1898 and were closely associated with the development of the new country, Mr. Browder was called, the Industrial Father of Memphis, he served a number of years as County Commissioner, and two terms as Mayor of Memphis; was the first president of the First National Bank, serving until his death. Together with is son, Jim, he installed the Memphis Water Works. The water is piped from the Giles hills and said to be the purest water system in the Panhandle. Mrs. Browder passed away in 1905 and he in 1926.
