SCHOOL GUARD, EX-DUCHESNE MAIL AID, DIES. William Henry Fitzwater, 75, long time resident of Duchesne County, died Friday at 10 p.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of coronary thrombosis. At the time of his death, Mrs. Fitzwater was employed as a crossing guard near Madison School, where the children knew him affectionately as "Uncle Bill". Mr. Fitzwater was born April 7, 1877 in Chaleston, W. Va., a son of George Henry and Nora Summers Fitzwater. He was educated in West Virginia schools and served in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War. On June 6, 1897, he married Lucretia Buckalew in Charleston. The moved to Duchesne in 1907 as converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage later was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. While in Duchesne, Mr. Fitzwater served as postmaster for 28 years. He served two terms as mayor of Duchesne and also was a city councilman and justice of the peace. Hi first wife died Oct. 14, 1934. On Aug. 25, 1942 he married Ida Bruce Thompson in Kemmerer, Wyo. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1944, where they have since resided. Mr. Fitzwater was a member of Wedgewood Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans; South Salt Lake Lions Club and Burton LDS Ward.

He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Ernst (Gladys) Odekirk, Mrs. Marvel (Verda) Moore, Mrs. Reed (Sarah) Cowan, Mrs. Troy (Doris) Bailey and Homer and Jack Fitzwater, all of Duchesne; Mrs. Okey (Leva) Davis, Mrs. Lawrence (Nora) Pack, Mrs. Glen (Georgia) Smith and Mrs. Sam (Bessie) Davis, all of Salt Lake City, and Alonzo C. Fitzwater, Tooele. The following step-sons and daughters also survive: Mrs. George (Jean) Beers, Provo; James R. Thompson Sr., William B. Thompson, Mrs. Heber (Ellen) Thurgood, Matthew B. Thompson and Mrs. John (Ida) Tester, all of Salt Lake City; 41 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and three brothers in West Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. at 260 E. South Temple, with Elfred Harrison, bishop of Burton LDS Ward, officiating. Friends may call a the place of funeral from 6p.m. to time of services.
