BEACHEY, Milton J. - ARTHUR - Milton J. Beachey, 81, of Arthur, IL, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2000 at his residence rural Arthur, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2000 at the Arthur Mennonite Church 710 E. Park St., Arthur, IL. Rev. Phil Schrock and Rev. Paul Sieber will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 13, 2000 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Arthur Mennonite Church. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Beachey was born July 23, 1919, in Arthur, IL, a son of Jacob D. and Lydia (Yoder) Beachey. He married Barbara Briskey in Hicksville, OH on October 26, 1944. He is survived by his wife, 6 children, and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Milton was a man of strong conviction. He was a member of the Arthur Mennonite Church where he served as Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Church Chorister and sang in special musical groups with the church. He was an avid reader and acquired his GED in 1991. Milton was a prominent farmer in the Arthur area from 1944 until his retirement in 1983. He was also a rural mail carrier from which he also retired in 1983. He was a conscientious objector to the war having served in the Civilian Public Service from 1939 - 1944 in Iowa, California, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
