Melvin M. Blind, 79, of Wever, died 7:20 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born on April 17, 1930 in Augusta, Iowa, he was the son of Louis J. and Hilda Dornhafner Blind. He married Donna Stevens on July 29, 1950 in Fort Madison. She died June 7, 1989.
He served in the US Air Force from 1951 - 1953 in French Morocco.
Melvin, along with his brother Curtis began Blind Brothers Construction in the 1950's. Together they constructed many quality businesses and homes in the area.
He was a 1948 graduate of Denmark Academy High School. He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two nieces; Dixie Haugen of Owatonna, Minnesota, Vickie Plank of Des Moines, IA and his loving companion poodle "Little Boy".
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Donna, one brother Curtis Blind and one sister Gloria Fowler.
The funeral service for Mr. Blind will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Randy Langner will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Fort Madison. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6th in Lunning Chapel.
