John Jack Sevier Wampler Jr. died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. He was born June 5, 1921, in Norton, Va., the son of the late John and Lillian Wolfe Wampler.

Jack worked in the food service industry in Asheville for many years, most recently at J&S Cafeteria. He was a 1943 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was an avid Hokie fan throughout his life. Jack served in the U.S. Army, 90th Infantry, during World War II. He was the husband of the late Sigrid Hollifield Bowman Wampler, and attended Pole Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Hood, of Greensboro, and Ann Ingle, of Loganville, Ga.; two stepsons, Hank Bowman, of Candler, and Allen Bowman, of Inman, S.C.; five grandchildren, Nicholas Hood Jr., of Greensboro, Mary Katherine Heath, of Apex, Sarah Willing, of Peachtree, City, Ga., Allison Ingle, of Loganville, and Britany Bowman, of Inman; one great-grandchild, Natalie Hood, of Greensboro; brother, William C. Wampler, of Bristol, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Pole Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.

The family will receive friends at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
