Notes from my mom's and Alice's research:
Elijah Clark Culpepper was born March 25, 1842 to Neil Culpepper and Eliza Channel in Muskogee County, Georgia. Elijah served in the Civil War with Company I of the 39th Alabama Infantry. He married Lucinda Harriett Bonds in 1866 in Barbour County, Alabama. They had eight children, the first five born in Alabama and the last three born after they moved to Cass County, Texas. Elijah died March 13, 1906. His widow, Lucinda Harriett Culpepper, received his compensation.
It is a shame that his first name is spelled wrong on the headstone. We had driven around in the Cusetta Mountain area before, but were unable to find the cemetery. We must have taken a wrong turn, but will try again next time we are in East Texas.
