Henry was the son of John H. and Sarah (Hammack) Secrest. He married Margaret Geyer on Jan.27,1836 in Delaware Co. Indiana. They lived in Blackford Co. Indiana until the end of the Civil War then moved to Christian Co. Illinois. Henry was a mechanic, millwright and sawmill operator. He and Margaret had eight children; Eliza, Sarah A, Malinda, Oliver, James, Mary J, Catherine and John H. Secrist.
