Robert G. Allee, 88, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, April 17, 2009, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant. Born May 24, 1920, in Belle Plaine, he was the son of Ora and Dora Miller Allee. On May 25, 1940, he married Mildred Kathryn Meyer in Kirksville, Mo. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Allee was employed for many years by Colonial Bakery in Mount Pleasant. He also had worked at Beavers Grocery Store and Sweetheart and Peter Pan Bakeries. After retiring from the bread business, he worked for the Mount Pleasant school system as a custodian at Salem Elementary. Upon retiring from the school system, he labored for H. Eugene Smith Construction as an office helper.
He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1938. He and his wife had lived in Cedar Rapids for two years following their marriage. The couple then moved to their longtime home on Locust Street in Mount Pleasant. They spent many winters together in Texas, traveling in their motor home. Both of them had taken many trips over the years, which were always recorded on his video camera. He had a passion for working in his yard and garden, and everything he did was done meticulously.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wendel of Urbana and Carol Calloway of Cedar Rapids; seven grandsons; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister, five brothers and one grandson. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association of Eastern Iowa.
