Pearl Etta Roy Strawderman, 95, a resident of Hambleton, and more recently a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life late Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, 2006, in the nursing home.

She was born Saturday, Oct. 1, 1910, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Hoy Ray Roy and Jeckie Sarah Helmick Roy Helmick Arnold.

On Dec. 24, 1926, she was married to Earl Strawderman Sr., who preceded her in death March 29, 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Earl Strawderman Jr. of Holly Meadows and Riley Lee Strawderman Sr. and wife, Onia, of Parsons; five daughters, Florence D. ?Dode? Hart, Gladys G. Hardy and husband, Ernest, all of Hambleton, P. Carol Ditch and husband, Lee, of North Carolina, Joyce Ann Fansler and husband, Harold, of Parsons, Clarice Knotts and husband, Don, of Sugarlands; one brother, Ernest Roy and wife, Kittie, of Saint Albans; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one daughter, Shirley Marie Rosier; five brothers, Chester Roy, Clifford Roy, Lester Roy, Thurman ?Tuck? Helmick and Leon Helmick; three sisters, Flodie Nestor, Josephine Phillips and Elsie Roy; and three grandsons, Billy Rosier Jr., David Strawderman and Donald Knotts Jr.

She attended the school on Hendrick?s Hill. She was a cook for Mon Valley Coal and Lumber Co. near Oakland, Md., the former Parsons Nursery, she worked for the former Schilansky?s Grocery Store, and she worked for Tucker County Senior Center for 21 years as the activity coordinator. She was the treasurer for the Free Methodist Church for 28 years of which she was a member. She was a noted quilt maker.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. The Rev. John Morrison and the Rev. Harley DeLeurere will officiate and interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at St. George. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 193, Parsons, W.Va. 26287. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Pearl Etta Roy Strawderman.
