Nellie Ann Packer Coons, daughter of Charles and Hattie M. Bradt Packer was born on February 11, 19055 in Gage County, Nebraska, and passed away on June 22, 1991 at the Republic County Long Term Care in Belleville, Kansas, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 11 days.

She attended rural schools in Gage County, near Diller, NE, and finished her elementary education in Kansas at the Freedom District Rural School in Republic County.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Coons on February 11, 1926 and to this union five children were born, Robert, Evelyn, Marjorie, Helen and Max.

Nellie, even with all her struggles, kept a bright out-look on life as well as a good sense of humor. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren very much as well as others. She had lots of God given talents which showed in the things she knitted, crocheted and sewed. She could make something out of nothing and make it look good. She enjoyed her flowers and the garden, kept a neat house, as well as doing a lot of cooking and canning. Nellie was known for her sour cream raisin pie and home made bread. She was always known for saying "I have to get up and get busy." Nellie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, a relative or friend. Her (sic) received her most enjoyment from sharing with others.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Chester, NE. She was a member of an extension club, served as a 4-H leader, and belonged to the Christian Women Fellowship.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hattie Packer; three brothers, William who died infancy (sic), John and Ray; four sisters, Hattie, Margaret, Nettie and Cora; one son, Robert Coons, and one daughter, Marjorie Witt.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd of the home in Belleville; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Larkins and her husband, Max, Belleville, KS, Mrs. Helen Horner and her husband, Roy or (sic) Exeter, NE; one son, Max Coons and his wife, Jane of Cuba, KS; a son-in-law, Paul Witt, Kearney, NE; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Coons, Salina, KS; two sisters-in-law, Meta Packer of Smith Center, KS, Esther Packer, Lincoln, NE; 15 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, other relatives a (sic) a host of friends.

Services were held Tuesday, June 25, 1991, 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ, Chester, NE, conducted by the Pastor Jim Wolduis. Organist was Mrs. Harold Crouse, and soloist, Mrs. Debra Carpenter. Casket bearers were Max Dale Coons, Eric Malstead, Bruce Coons, Roger Horner, Richard Coons, Brian Witt and Ray Horner. Interment was made in the Chester Cemetery.
