Ole Martensen was born on 10 Nov 1849 to Martin Larsen and Helene Christiansdatter on Lunde Farm, Land, Oppland Norway. (see Kirkebok entry in photos to the right) He and his wife Ellen, however, liked to celebrate their birthdays on the same day - 3 Nov - and were married on that day. (The headstone even says 3 Nov) Ole was baptized on 25 Nov at Lunde Parish Church.
Ole and his brother, Kristian Martensen, sailed together for America on 28 Sept 1869. (See sailing record at the right) Ole can found in Dunn Co, Wis on both the 1870 (unmarried) and 1880 census (married.) On 3 Nov 1877 Ole and Ellen were married in Eau Claire.
After the 1880 census they relocated to Bayfield Co, Wis, where Ole died in 1898 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery. He is my paternal Great Grandfather.
