LOUISA MARKWARDT

Mrs. John Markwardt, the oldest resident of Kiel, died of dropsy, on Friday, at her home on Fourth street. Her death came at the advanced age of 88 yers.

A native of Loenhof, Meklenburg, Germany, the deceased, nee Louisa Dorothea Jacobs, was born on May 16, 1839.
She was married to Mr. Markwardt on Oct. 26, 1864, and in 1872 the family came to America, settling in Kiel a short time later, where Mrs. Markwardt has lived ever since, a period of over 60 years.

Six children were born to this union, of whom one died in infancy. Mr. Markwardt passed away three years ago, one month before the date of the 60th wedding aniversary.

The survivors are as follows: Five children, Fred. of Kohler, Otto of Sheboygan, Edmund of New Holstein, Mrs. George Ryan of Milwaukee and Meta at home; also 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Saewert conducted the funeral services which were held on Monday afternoon from the late home, with interment in the Kiel cemetery.
