North Adams Transcript, May 2, 1916

Midor Scarbo of Florida, 79 years of age, a veteran of the Civil war, died this morning at the North Adams hospital. Four weeks ago he was operated upon for appendicitis and recovered from the operation itself but, on account of his age, he began to decline and failed steadily until death came this morning.

Mr. Scarbo was born July 17, 1836, at Milton Falls, Vt., and enlisted in Company I, Vermont Volunteer infantry on October 16, 1861. He saw much service in the civil war and took part in a number of noted engagements. Mr. Scarbo lived for a time in Adams and for the past 10 years had made his home near the Central shaft in Florida mountain.

He leaves his wife in Bennington, N. H., two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Decette and Mrs. Elizabeth Shay of Nashua, N.H., and a son John, in Bennington, N.H. He also leaves a niece in this city, Mrs. Edward Reyno.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Grand Army hall. There will be a Grand Army service in connection with services conducted by Rev. George Mayo Gerrish, pastor of the Universalist Church. Burial will be in the soldiers mound in Hillside cemetery.
