Word was received here late this morning of the death in Worcester of Charles A. Beals, 84, a former well known resident, following a shock. Mr. Beals died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nettie Reed of Worcester, where he had been living for several years past.

He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Nettie Reed, and a brother, Homer Beals of Clarksburg. The body will be brought to this city this evening and will be taken to the Simmons undertaking parlors on State street awaiting arrangements for the funeral.

Civil War Veteran's Funeral Held Today

The funeral of Charles W. Beals, one of the oldest members of C.D. Sanford post of the GAR whose death occurred Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nettie Reed of Worcester, took place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the parlors of the Grand Army hall and Rev. H.S. Metcalfe, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church officiated. The service was largely attended and most of the surviving comrades of the deceased Civil war veteran were present to pay their last tribute. Sons of Veterans were the bearers and burial was in Hillside cemetery.
