Dufur "Duff" M. Peters, 78, died peacefully in his sleep at his brother Carl's home in Mason, WI on Monday, November 19, 2007. He had made his annual deer hunting trip to hunt with family members there.

He was born in Mason, WI on July 13, 1929, the eldest of three sons, to Freda and Carl Peters. He graduated from Drummond High School in 1949 and Stout State College in 1953. He eventually earned a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Duff taught in Milwaukee, where he met Mary Ann Robertson, whom he married in Stoughton, WI on December 22, 1957. Duff and Mary Ann were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

After working as a guidance counselor in Merrill, he moved on to admissions at North Central Technical College-Wausau. In 1970, he became the administrator of Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg, expanding services to the aging in Bowler and Wausau as well as in Wittenberg. He retired in 1993.

He was active as a 4-H leader, in church, village, town and county affairs, and received The Man of the Year award in 1976. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and attending his grandchildren's activities. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to express his love for them. His generosity and dedication to service of others was one of his outstanding qualities. You could always count on him for a great story.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann; two sons, Dale (special friend Pam Gohn) Peters, Delcie and Hannah, of Thompson Falls, MT and Kurt (Debbi) Peters, Sam, Ellie and Joey of Duluth, MN; two daughters, Marla (Rick) Harrmann, Mackenzie and Kennedy, and Betsy (Jeff) Wolding, Tanner and Bailey, all of Appleton; two brothers, Carl (Pat) Peters, Mason and Wayne (Shirley) Peters, Helper, UT. Also surviving are Mary Ann's sisters, Karen (Maury) Gifford, Raleigh, NC, Janet Robertson, Madison and Jeanne (Roger) Cohee, Oregon, WI; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Duff was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann's parents, Marguerite and Arnold Robertson, Stoughton, WI and nephew, Calvin Peters, Mason, WI.

Duff had long planned to be buried in his hometown of Mason, where he happened to have passed away. There will be a funeral service at Moland Lutheran Church, Mason at 2PM on Saturday, November 24, with visitors being received one hour prior to the service. Longtime friend Rev. Reuben Carlson will be officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wittenberg on Friday, Nov. 23. Friends and family will be received for one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Ken Schlueter and Rev. Reuben Carlson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Homme Home Foundation.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
