She was born on July 22, 1905 in Clark, South Dakota to William and Edna Wolfe. In 1918 she moved to Monrovia, California where she attended high school and then USC. Vera married Charles H. Ainley in 1925 and together they spent 33 years as missionaries in Mexico and Guatemala under the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. They lived for 10 years in Woodlake, California where they were active in the Woodlake Presbyterian Church. Following retirement in 1966 they moved to Westminster Gardens in Duarte, CA where Charles served as associate pastor at the Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Vera was active in the prayer ministry there.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her son, Chuck. She is survived by her loving family: son Bill and his wife Nancy of Elma, WA, daughter-in-law Virginia of Spokane, WA, son Bob of Santa Ana, CA, daughter Bette Grier and her husband Bill of Delta Junction, AK, and son Ben and his wife Marge of Clovis, CA. She also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Monrovia on Monday, January 4, at 2:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:30pm in Duarte at Westminster Garden's Packard Hall, 1420 Santo Domingo.
