Obituary for Fred W. Posson

Fred Posson, a resident of Merced for 47 years, passed away, September 8, 2002. Mr. Posson was born at his home, in Sanger California on December 19, 1917.
He was raised on a Fruit and Cattle ranch. He worked as a cowboy during the annual cattle drives into the Sierra Nevada's. During the depression, he worked as a store clerk, gas station attendant and a lineman. During World War II, he served in the signal corps for the U.S. army and achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was a member of the occupation force in Kyoto Japan. In Kyoto he was known to collect candy and give it out to the young children.
Following World War II, he met and married Peggy Gene Harrison. They moved to Madera, California to begin their new life and family. He worked as a Line Foreman for the telephone company. In 1955, Fred moved his family to their current home in Merced. There he continued his work as a Line Foreman, and then as an engineer, until his retirement in 1980.
Following retirement Fred and his wife Peggy traveled around the United States. Fred worked for 25 years with the San Joaquin Raptor Rescue center. He was responsible for the care, rehabilitation, and release nto the wild of hundreds of birds of prey.
Fred was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, Yosemite Lodge No. 99 F. & A.M., the Raptor Rescue Center, Multicultural Arts Center, American Orchid Society, and the Boy Scouts of America. Fred was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and great Grandfather. He had many friends and was widely loved and respected. Because of his relationship with Jesus Christ, we are assured of his eternal salvation.
Fred is survived by his wife Peggy Gene Posson of Merced; son Paul Gregg Posson of Denair; daughter, Susan Poole of Clovis; brother George Posson of Fresno; six Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
A visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2002 and Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service was scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2002 at The Evangelical Free Church of Merced on 2876 N. "G" Street with the Reverend Harlen Selvey officiating and Yosemite Lodge No. 99 F. & A.M. The burial took place at Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.
Services are under the direction of Stratford Evans Funeral Chapel."
