Lawrence "L.E.-Larry" Davis, age 76, of Melrose, New Mexico passed away at his home Monday, December 28, 2009. He was born November 16, 1933, in Riverside, California to Honley "H.D.-Dwight" and Sadie Bell Barto Davis.
He served in the United States Marine Corps where he was a veteran of the Korean War. L.E. came to Clovis in 1968 where he farmed and ranched the family homestead until his death. He enjoyed mechanic work, raising cattle and at an early age raced motorcycles. He was a member of the VFW Post 3280, Clovis - Portales Elks Lodge 1244, American Legion Post 25, and had been attending the Melrose Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Larry and wife, Terri Davis of Melrose; two daughters, Donna Fay Davis and Rhonda Lynn Davis both of Bloomington, California; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Dwight Junior Davis of Riverside, California and William R. "Bill" Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lola Davis; grandson, Dwight Davis, and two sisters.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Field Cemetery, in Field, New Mexico with Grady Bright officiating. The family will gather at the Field Volunteer Fire Department after the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marines. Honorary pallbearers are the members of VFW Post 3280.
