Obituary in the Newton Kansan April 30, 1906 -
Mrs. Helen Rowland died last night at her home a mile east on Tenth Street after an illness lasting a month. For several days the family had known death would soon come to relieve her suffering and the members living out of town had been called home and all were with her at the end. Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of Norman, R.S. Rowland of Muskogee, Mrs. Cena Hutchinson, a sister of Mrs. Rowland from Cripple Creek and a brother C. M. Grant of Guthrie have all been here several days. Mrs. Rowland was born in Marietta, Ohio sixty-seven years ago and came to Kansas with her husband and children twenty-five years ago last January and has always lived in or near Newton since that time. Her unfailing kindness to all around her and her sweet disposition have made many friends for her who will mourn with the family in their loss. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and Rev. J.Y. Ewart will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Newton Cemetery.
