Nancy Graham Rosen of Gatesville died June 19. She was 84.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry VanZile officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Rosen was born Dec. 13, 1913, in The Grove to the late W.R. and Johnnie Peters Graham.
She completed high school in Amarillo and earned her bachelor's degree from West Texas State University. She did graduate work at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA.
On Dec. 31,1940, she married Ben M. Rosen in Rockwall.
She taught school for several years in Dallas before moving to Lake Charles where she taught at Hamilton Elementary School for 26 years.
After her retirement in 1980, she moved to Gatesville.
In 1950, she was named "Woman of the Year" by the citizens of Lake Charles.
She was active in the Louisiana State Handicapped Children's Program and served as state president for one term. She received a distinguished award in 1979 from that organization for her many hours of volunteer service.
She worked for the rights of the disabled in the Louisiana Legislature, and was instrumental in getting the Handicapped Olympics established in Lake Charles.
She held an executive position with the Pink Ladies Association for hospitals in Lake Charles, and after moving to Gatesville, remained active with hospital auxiliary work.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, National Education Association, Louisiana State Teachers Association, National Association of Retired Teachers, Eastern Star and the Garden Club of Gatesville.
She was by preceded in death by her husband on June 28, 1968, and her son, Ben (Mart) Rosen Jr. on April 20, 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Winkler of Gatesville; one brother, J.M. Graham of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials bs made to the building fund of the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville.
