Born at Marble Hill near Ozark, Arkansas he
was the oldest son of John Wesley and Mary
Cora (Pruitt) Nichols.
He served in the Eleventh Armored Division
During WWII as was a tank commander of a
light tank. He fought in the Battle of the
Bulge, the Battle of the Rhine, and several
others throughout the war.
One of the achievements the Eleventh
Armored Division was the liberation of the
Mauthausen concentration camp near Linz,
Austria in May 1945.
He loved to tell the stories of the way it
was and often with his own unique spin on
things and we all loved it. He loved history
as well as his own family history, reading,
growing his own food, and he did travel a lot
in his lifetime.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in
Tulare and of San Antonio, Texas.
In his life he married three times. His
first marriage was to Edna Hignight, they
had one son Raymond.
His second wife was Annabelle Lea Lopeman,
together they had six children Patrick, Linda
(died at birth),Margaret, Ruth Ann, Abie John
(died at birth), and Ricky.
His third wife Mary Cupp passed away in 1979,
they had no children.
In 2002 he lost his true-life companion Margarie.
He leaves 25 grandchildren, 22 great-
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is missed by all of us that knew him.
